CONSULTING ENGINEER
POSITION: Consulting Engineer
LOCATION: Minnesota Only
REPORTS TO: President/Vice-President
COMPANY: IEM Energy Consultants, LLC (“IEM”) specializes in all aspects of power plant operations, maintenance, and management. We are experiencing phenomenal growth due to the ever-changing landscape of the worldwide power generation sector and are actively involved in projects both domestic and international.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Working from either home or client job sites, the Consulting Engineer will provide support to IEM and its clients in all technical and, at times, commercial aspects of plant operations, maintenance and management. The successful candidate will be expected to work well in both independent and team environments. Job responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Evaluate plant upgrades from a thermal, physical, and economic perspective.

Provide advice, review and/or hands on oversight of contractor inspections and repairs during plant maintenance outages.

Evaluate plant predictive and preventative maintenance programs and technologies.
-
Review and interpret specialty contractor test results, (e.g., borescopes, electrical, etc.).

Develop long term maintenance strategies and budgets.
-
Support root cause investigation and analysis.
-
Review work scopes and provide feedback for new projects.
-
Develop QA/QC checklists for vendor surveillance and plant maintenance events.
-
Develop training materials for plant operations, maintenance and management, and equipment specific materials.
-
Any and/or all of the above in support of client due diligence activities.

Other duties as requested and required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS -
Knowledge of OSHA work safety requirements for operations, maintenance, and construction.

BS in a technical field such as Mechanical Engineering (or similar) or equivalent documented experience in increasingly responsible positions in this industry.

Three (3) to five (5) years relevant power generation experience in both fossil steam and gas turbine-based power plants working for an asset owner/utility, OEM, or contract service provider.

Highly proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite of products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) as well as SharePoint and OneDrive, including both desktop and web applications.

Experience and proficiency using digital communication processes such as MS Teams, Zoom, Google Meet and others.

Ability to read, write and understand complex technical, legal, and financial documents in English.

Working knowledge of thermodynamics, Brayton Cycle, and Rankine Cycle.

Ability to work constructively and equally well in independent, minimum supervision, and team environment settings.

Ability to assist with detecting, diagnosing and repairing power generation equipment malfunctions.

• Excellent communication skills, including written, verbal, and most importantly listening.

• Ability to work effectively with external organizations and business associates, while presenting and promoting corporate goals and objectives.

Provide support for international trade shows and conferences.
-
Valid driver’s license.

Valid passport.

Able to climb, work in constricted spaces, lift and carry materials greater than forty (40) pounds.

Ability to travel worldwide, sometimes for extended periods of time.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS -
Power plant maintenance experience, including troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and predictive maintenance programs.

Well-developed electrical, instrumentation and control systems troubleshooting and repair skills.
-
Experience in power generation asset due diligence for acquisition. • Professional Engineering registration.

Project Management Professional registration.
-
Strong written and verbal language skills.
-
Bi-lingual or multi-lingual beneficial.
